The Blues are currently at the top of the ISL table.

Indian Super League (ISL) club Bengaluru FC Head coach Gerard Zaragoza exuded confidence in his team’s combination of youth and experience ahead of their upcoming Week 10 clash against Odisha FC.

While praising veteran star Sunil Chhetri for his recent performances, he shared his thoughts on how young talent can lead the team’s performance this season.

The Blues are coming off the back of a 2-1 come from behind win Mohammedan SC. Chhetri was instrumental in the two crucial goals for his side after coming on as a substitute and was the difference between the teams.

Ahead of the big game against the Juggernauts, Gerard Zaragoza shared his thoughts on the challenges ahead and his star man Chhetri.

Sunil Chhetri is the ultimate motivator says Gerard Zaragoza

The Spanish head coach was quick to praise Sunil Chhetri after yet another of his iconic match-winning performances at 40. Gerard Zaragoza was quick to admit that motivating Sunil Chhetri is a task he never has to worry about. Unlike Sunil is always the man who motivates others.

While talking about the ISL’s top scorer, Gerard Zaragoza said, “You don’t have to motivate Sunil. He motivates himself. He can motivate the team. The only thing he wants is to win everything he tries. As I always say, he is the first to try to win the first drill of the training sessions. He wants to win every practice and that brings that extra motivation to all the players, all of us.”

Chhetri’s rejuvenated form is a key sign for Bengaluru FC this season as Zaragoza hope their captain’s momentum continues throughout the campaign. The Indian icon’s leadership, both on and off the field, has created an environment where his younger peers not only thrive but also learn from one of the best Indian football talents.

The Spaniard also praised Bengaluru’s young talents including Lalremtluanga Fanai, Vinith Venkatesh and Siva Sakthi Narayan for their contributions this season. The quality of training is unbelievable. They are getting better every day.”

He added that the influence of experienced players like Chhetri extends beyond matches. Zaragoza believes that with their work ethic on the training ground, the squad’s veteran players are setting benchmarks for the youngsters to follow. This unique blend of experience and youth is key to ensuring sustained success for Bengaluru FC and is an asset for Gerard Zaragoza this season.

With the Blues looking to establish an unassailable lead at the top of the table with a win over Odisha FC in Week 10, the team’s ability to get results is a good sign. Progress this season for Bengaluru FC will largely depend on how effectively the young players can shoulder the responsibilities alongside veterans like Sunil Chhetri, Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Edgar Mendez.

The Spaniard’s confidence in his team coupled with the determination of his captain Sunil Chhetri signals that Bengaluru FC will be a tough outing for any team this season.
