Robbery at the house of an 82-year-old woman: the grandson turns out to be the mastermind

Chandigarh: Four days after robbers took an 82-year-old woman hostage in her house in Sector 27 and made off with jewelery worth Rs 80 lakh besides some cash, the UT police have solved the case by arresting the victim’s nephew and three others. The nephew was the mastermind of the crime as he knew the elderly woman lived alone in her house.
Accused – identified as Jaswant Singh alias Jassa, (35 years), resident of Ludhiana; Virendra Kumar alias Som, (39); Jasmeet Singh aka Sherry (29); and Kaka alias Gullu (43) — were remanded for 2 days by the police for recovering the stolen ornaments. Around 3 am on November 26, four unknown masked robbers barged into the home of 82-year-old Raksha Sharma, held her hostage at knifepoint and carried out a major robbery.
A police team working under the supervision of crime branch inspector Ashok has achieved success. The inspector came to know about Raksha’s nephew Jaswant Singh after which the police investigation revealed the whole plot. Police have arrested all the accused from Ludhiana.
Investigation revealed that Jaswant planned the robbery and included three others in his plan.
After carrying out the robbery, they took a taxi and reached Ludhiana, police said. Police said all the four accused are drug addicts and committed the crime to fulfill their drug craving.

Sikarwar, who used to be a domestic help, entered the house to steal and pay the debts, leading to a fatal scuffle. He stabbed the victim several times before escaping.
